Is Domvio the right kind of hostel software for you?
"Hostel management software" means two very different things in India. Colleges and universities need an ERP that ties into admissions, fees, attendance and the mess. Private hostel owners mostly need to know who has paid this month's rent. Domvio is built for the second.

What Domvio does not do
We would rather say this up front than have you find out after setup. Domvio has none of these today:
- Mess or food menu planning, meal counts or food billing
- Attendance, roll calls or biometric entry
- Gate passes, visitor logs or out-pass approvals
- Admissions, room allotment by merit, or semester fee structures
- Integration with a college ERP or student information system

- Card or net-banking payments. Rent is paid by UPI or in cash

With dozens of residents, the hard part is not collecting rent. It is knowing who is still pending without going through a register and a bank app. The Domvio dashboard lists every resident who needs attention. From WhatsApp, message the Domvio bot "overdue" for late residents or "remind all" to send everyone who has not paid another reminder.

Frequently asked questions
Is there free hostel management software in India?
Domvio is free during early access for private hostel and PG owners, with no setup fee and no credit card. It covers as many rooms and beds as you have, with rent run on WhatsApp: reminders, UPI and cash rent, and receipts. It does not cover mess, attendance or gate passes.
Is there hostel management software to download for free?
You don't need to download anything to start. Domvio works as an online app at app.domvio.in on your phone or computer, and an Android app on the Play Store is coming soon. Residents use nothing but WhatsApp and their UPI app.
Can Domvio manage a college hostel?
Not well. College hostels usually need admissions, attendance, mess and fee modules tied to a campus ERP, and Domvio has none of these. It suits privately run hostels that collect monthly rent per bed.
Do hostel residents need to install an app?
No. Residents get rent reminders and receipts on WhatsApp and pay with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or any bank app.
Can I record cash rent from hostel residents?
Yes. Tap "Record cash" in the app or message the Domvio WhatsApp bot, for example "paid Arjun", and the resident gets a PDF cash receipt on WhatsApp.
