A To-Let board is a sign on the gate or balcony that tells passers-by a home is available for rent. This maker prints an A4 poster with TO LET in large letters, an optional line in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil or another Indian language, the BHK, rent, area and your phone number, plus tear-off strips.

Make your To-Let poster

Choose the size and type of home, add the rent, area and phone number, and pick a local language for the second line if you want one. Print it on A4, or save it as a PDF and take it to a print shop for a bigger copy on card or flex.

This poster maker needs JavaScript. To make a board by hand, write TO LET across the top of an A4 sheet in thick red letters, then the size and type of home (for example 2 BHK Flat), the monthly rent, the area or landmark and your phone number in large figures. Cut a row of tear-off strips with your number along the bottom.

What to write on a To-Let board

People read a board from across the road or from a moving bike, so keep it to the few things that make someone stop and call.

LineExampleWhy it matters
TO LETTO LET, with a local-language line under itThe one thing everyone recognises from a distance
Size and type2 BHK Flat, 1 RK, Independent house, PG bedsFilters out callers looking for something else
RentRent ₹18,000 a monthSaves you a dozen calls from people who can't afford it
Area or landmarkHSR Layout, near BDA ComplexUseful when the board goes up at a shop or on a notice board, away from the home
Phone numberCall or WhatsApp 98765 43210The biggest line after TO LET; a separate number keeps your personal one private
OptionalFurnishing, deposit, parking, lift, suitable for families or working professionalsAnswers the next question before it is asked

Use a number you can switch off

A board stays up for weeks and the number gets photographed. A second SIM or a WhatsApp Business number keeps late-night calls away from your personal phone once the flat is let.

Where to put up a To-Let board

  • On the gate or compound wall, facing the road, at eye level.
  • On the balcony of the flat itself, if the society allows it. Ask the association or RWA first: many apartment complexes do not allow boards on the building and keep a notice board at the security cabin instead.
  • On the notice board of nearby shops, tea stalls, gyms and offices, where the tear-off strips are most useful.
  • In your society, office and neighbourhood WhatsApp groups, as a photo or the PDF.
  • On listing sites such as NoBroker, MagicBricks, 99acres and Housing.com, and in local Facebook groups, with the same details and photos of every room.

To Let in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and other languages

A second line in the local language reaches people who read it faster than English. The maker fills in a short phrase that is common on boards in each language, and you can change the words if they are said differently in your area.

After the calls start: the next steps

  1. Screen callers before you show the home

Ask a few questions on the phone first: who will live there, when they want to move in, and what they do. Our tenant screening checklist has the full list and a printable form.

  2. Collect the tenant's details and documents

Hand over the tenant KYC form and keep copies of their ID and address proof.

  3. Sign the agreement and verify the tenant

Write a rent agreement, pay the stamp duty, and register the tenant for police verification.

  4. Take the board down

Remove it, and any copies at shops, as soon as the agreement is signed, so the calls stop.

The whole process, from setting the rent to the first payment, is in our step-by-step guide on how to rent out your flat.

Once the tenant moves in, rent runs itself

Domvio invites the tenant on WhatsApp, reminds them three days before rent is due with a UPI link to your own account, and sends a PDF receipt to both of you for every payment. Their lease and KYC documents are stored in one place. Free during early access. See the rent collection app.

Frequently asked questions

What should I write on a To-Let board?

TO LET in large letters, the size and type of home (such as 2 BHK Flat), the monthly rent, the area or landmark and a phone number. Add furnishing, deposit or parking only if there is room.

What size should a To-Let board be?

A4 is enough for a gate or notice board. For a balcony or a wall seen from the road, save the poster as a PDF and ask a print shop to print it larger on card or flex; the layout scales up.

Should I put the rent on the board?

Usually yes. It saves calls from people looking for something cheaper. If you would rather discuss it, leave the rent empty and the poster says "Rent: call to ask".

Can I put up a To-Let board in my apartment society?

Ask the association or RWA first. Many societies do not allow boards on the building and have a notice board at the gate or security cabin instead.

How do I write To Let in Hindi?

A common line is "किराये के लिए उपलब्ध" (available for rent). The maker fills it in when you pick Hindi, and you can edit the words.
