Rent reminder message in Punjabi (ਕਿਰਾਏ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ-ਦਹਾਨੀ)

A Punjabi rent reminder usually opens with ਸਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ and the tenant's name with ਜੀ, then gives the month, the ਕਿਰਾਇਆ (rent), the due date and your UPI ID. The four Gurmukhi messages below take you from a polite reminder to a firm one, a final one, and a thank-you when rent is paid.
How to address a tenant in Punjabi
ਜੀ (ji) after the name is the respectful form in Punjabi, for men and women alike: "Harpreet ਜੀ". Use ਤੁਸੀਂ (tusi) for "you", never ਤੂੰ. ਸਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ is the everyday greeting across Punjab; if you and your tenant normally say ਨਮਸਤੇ, change the first word. These templates are in Gurmukhi, the script used in Indian Punjab and Chandigarh.

Punjabi verbs change with the speaker's gender. Where you see ਰਿਹਾ/ਰਹੀ or ਦਿਆਂਗਾ/ਦਿਆਂਗੀ, keep the first form if you are a man and the second if you are a woman, and delete the other.
Polite Punjabi reminder before rent is due
Send this two or three days before the due date, after salaries have come in. Paste your UPI ID in English letters so it can be copied straight into a payment app.

Firm Punjabi reminder when rent is a week late
A week late, stay respectful but specific: how many days, which dates you reminded the tenant, and what the agreement says. Ask for the full amount or a date in writing.

Final Punjabi reminder
Use it only after a month or more of unpaid rent. The message names a final date and says you will take legal advice. Do not threaten the tenant, cut supplies or lock them out, even if you are owed a lot. The tenant not paying rent guide explains the lawful steps.

If a relative collects rent for you
- Many houses in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and the rest of Doaba belong to families abroad. A relative who sends reminders should say in the first line whose house it is and that they write for the owner.
- Ask the tenant to keep paying the owner's own UPI ID. A sudden request to pay a new account is how rent scams start, and careful tenants will refuse.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Punjabi word for rent?
ਕਿਰਾਇਆ (kiraaya), the same root as Hindi किराया. A tenant is ਕਿਰਾਏਦਾਰ.
Can I send these messages in Shahmukhi?
These are in Gurmukhi, the script used in Indian Punjab. Shahmukhi is mainly used in Pakistan, and most tenants in India will not read it.
My tenant reads Hindi better than Punjabi. What should I send?
Send the Hindi version from the main page. Many tenants in Chandigarh and Mohali come from other states and are more at home in Hindi or English.
