How to do tenant police verification in Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh you apply for Tenant/PG Verification on the UP Police citizen portal after creating an account. The portal's instructions fix the fee at ₹50, paid online with the application, and ask for the tenant's recent photo plus identity and address proof. You can also go to the police station that covers the rented property.
Where is tenant verification on the UP Police website?
The citizen services on uppolice.gov.in include Tenant/PG Verification, Domestic Help Verification, Employee Verification and Character Verification. The tenant link takes you to the UP Police CCTNS citizen portal, where the service is listed as a Tenant / PG verification request. The portal also points to the UPCOP app, available on the Google Play Store and the App Store.
Create an account
On the citizen portal, choose the option to create a new user. Use a mobile number and email address you check, because updates are sent to them.
Log in and pick the tenant service
Sign in with your user ID and password and select the Tenant / PG verification request.
Enter the details and upload files
Fill in the form and attach the tenant's photo, identity proof and address proof, each within the size limit given below.
Pay ₹50 online
The fee must be paid online while you apply. The portal's instructions say an application without the fee is treated as incomplete and is not processed.
Track it with the application number
Keep the application number. The portal's search status option shows its progress.
Documents and file sizes for the online form
- A recent passport-size photo of the tenant.
- Proof of identity.
- Proof of address.
- Formats accepted: jpg, gif, doc, docx, pdf or txt.
- Size limit: 200 KB for each file.
This list is from the portal's instructions for applicants, which are in Hindi. Phone photos are usually far larger than 200 KB, so shrink or rescan each file before you start the form.
Residence condition
The same instructions say the person being verified should be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. If your tenant's permanent home is in another state, ask the police station for the property how they handle the request before you pay.
What happens after you apply, and how long it takes
According to the portal's instructions, reports are gathered from the police stations for the tenant's current and permanent addresses, from the LIU (Local Intelligence Unit) and from the DCRB (District Crime Records Bureau). The district police chief for the current address, the Senior Superintendent or Superintendent of Police, then issues a digitally signed certificate online.
You get system messages on your registered mobile number and email when the application is submitted, when the station, LIU and DCRB finish their checks, and when final action is taken. The instructions have a heading for a prescribed time limit, but nothing was written under it when we looked, so we cannot give an official timeline.
Applying offline at the police station
You can also apply at the police station whose area covers the rented property. Ask there for the form, the documents to attach and whether a fee applies at the counter. The citizen portal additionally lists a downloadable Tenant Verification Form on its offline e-form page, which sits behind a code check. Keep a stamped acknowledgement with your copy of the rent agreement.
PG owners in Uttar Pradesh
The portal names the service Tenant/PG Verification, so paying guest residents go through the same request as tenants. For the agreement each resident signs, see our PG rental agreement format.
The rent agreement itself
Police verification does not replace a written, stamped rent agreement. We have not yet published a page on Uttar Pradesh stamp duty, because we could not find the official text of the current rates. Our stamp duty on rent agreements page explains how duty works in the states we have sourced, and the rent agreement format gives you a draft to start from.
After verification: rent and records
Keep the tenant's documents with the rent
Domvio stores each tenant's KYC and lease in one place, alongside their rent history and PDF receipts. It does not apply for police verification for you; that stays with the UP Police portal or station. See the rent collection app.
